Stone walls have long been a popular choice in garden landscaping. They do not deteriorate over time, strong, and is a charming landscape addition to your yard or garden. With some time and effort put in, you will be able to have a stone garden wall construction that beautifies your property by yourself following this simple guide to store garden wall construction.

First, you will need to decide on which kind of stone you would want to use. You also need to consider whether it will fit nicely into your landscape or not. Then, you will need to decide on the amount of stone you need and put down an order.

After that, lay out the wall dimensions. Make sure that it is not too tall to avoid support problems. If the stone wall is below 3’, the approximate width will be 2’ at the bottom and 1’ at the top. Then, dig out the foundation trench. For a wall that is 2-3’, the trench should be around 6″ deep and 2’ wide. Though not required, gravels can be used as a base.

Now it is time to lay the rocks. Use the largest rocks for the base and flatter ones for cap rocks and make sure that the joints close together. Lay the wall side to side, and front to rear and then increase the wall height. Remember to mix the rocks so that the joints will be tight and the wall will have a nicer look. Step and back fill the wall, and then tamp it with extra soil as you increase the height, so that the wall will be strong and will not topple over.

After that cap the wall, and tamp the soil. To finish, you can add protective mulch or sod, or even a flower bed and you are done.
